The biggest expense for a livestock farm is feed, and cattle eat a lot. No matter if you are a beginning farmer or an experienced rancher, everyone can learn to better manage their forage situation. This four-hour course split into two weeks will run through the basics of rotational grazing ruminants to improve your land, your animals, and your wallet. Rotational grazing can help you to increase your profits by: • Lowering your feed costs • Improving your pastures • Decreasing farm labor • Producing healthier animals In this class, Livestock Educator, Jason Detzel, will teach the basics and benefits of rotating your animals, including: • The advantages of rotational grazing vs. traditional continuous grazing models • Planning a system that works for your particular property • Infrastructure and management • Calving and breeding considerations • Water and forage management • Use of stockpiling forage for winter feed This course will be presented over two consecutive weeks for 2 hours per class.
