Chemung County's Spring Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event is scheduled for Saturday, May 16. Pre-registration is required by calling Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chemung County at 607-734-4453 starting Wednesday April 22 until Wednesday May 13, weekdays only from 9am-12pm & 1pm-4pm.
Accepted items include:

- Aerosols
- Antifreeze
- Arts & crafts supplies
- Ballasts
- Household batteries
- Brake fluid
- Cesspool cleaners
- Compound/putty/spackle
- Drain & oven cleaners
- Driveway sealer/roof tar/patch
- Dry cleaning fluids
- Engine & radiator flushes
- Floor cleaners
- Fluorescent lights
- Gasoline/kerosene/mix
- Lawn chemicals
- Herbicides
- Household cleaners
- Insect sprays
- Mercury & items containing mercury
- Metal polishes
- Moth balls
- Muriatic acid,
- Nail polish & hair spray
- Paint (oil & latex w/ limits) & paint thinner
- Pesticides
- Photo chemicals/inks
- Polishes
- Pool chemicals
- Radiator cleaners
- Rodent killers
- Rust preventatives
- Sealants/lubricants
- Solvents (mineral spirits)
- Transmission fluid
- Wood stains/strippers
This free event is open to Chemung County households only. When registering, please have a list of items you intend to bring. Electronics are not accepted. For more information, please call 607-734-4453.
